About the Florida Electronic Prescribing (ePrescribing) Clearinghouse

The purpose of the Florida ePrescribing Clearinghouse is to provide information that contributes to the promotion and implementation of electronic prescribing by health care practitioners, health care facilities, and pharmacies in order to prevent prescription drug abuse, improve patient safety, and reduce unnecessary prescriptions. This Clearinghouse contains information on the advantages, processes, products, rules, and laws of ePrescribing as well as Florida ePrescribing reports.

News

Federal Change – Medicare Advantage and Part D Drug Pricing Final Rule (CMS-4180-F). This rule clarifies that providers must use ePrescribing for Medicare part D Schedule II, III, IV, or V controlled substances on or before January 1, 2021.

State Change – Chapter 2019-112, Florida Statutes requires health care practitioners who are licensed by law to prescribe and have access to Electronic Health Record Systems to ePrescribe all prescriptions (this includes controlled substances) by the time of license renewal or by July 1, 2021, whichever is earlier. There are eight exemptions for this requirement in the law, including an issued waiver [ application/pdf ] to a practitioner for a term not to exceed 1 year due to demonstrated hardships or exceptional circumstances.
