The Background Screening Unit
The Background Screening Unit processes screening results for Florida health care providers currently licensed by the Agency for Health Care Administration. Processing includes determining eligibility and evaluating applications for exemption. The Unit is also responsible for maintaining and administering the Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
Understanding The Background Screening Process
Background screenings are required for individuals working in AHCA-licensed facilities and Medicaid Provider Enrollment to ensure the safety and well-being of the population they serve.
This process involves:
• A Level 2 fingerprint-based background check initiated through the Clearinghouse.
• Submitting fingerprints and having a photo taken by an approved Livescan service provider.
• Receiving an eligibility determination before starting employment in a regulated facility.
